Regulatory & Statutory

Important Legal Notice

This website and the Outset brand relates to two separate legal entities operating as a collaborative venture:

1) Outset Legal LLP – a limited liability partnership (See Statutory Information below) authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

2) Outset (UK) Ltd – a limited company (See Statutory Information below) designing, implementing and delivering structured business support solutions to companies, public sector organisations and the third sector (the ‘Outset UK Ltd Services’).

Outset (UK) Ltd provides, and/or from time to time procures the provision of, legal advice and legal drafting as a subsidiary but necessary part of the Outset UK Ltd
Services, being its main services. However, Outset (UK) Ltd does not on any account provide or purport to provide:

  • reserved legal activities (within the meaning of the Legal Services Act 2007);
  • regulated but not reserved legal activities (including immigration advice and services);
  • claims management services (within the meaning of the Compensation Act 2007); or
  • any service that would constitute prohibited separate business activities within the meaning of Chapter 12 of the SRA Code of Conduct 2011

For the avoidance of doubt, in circumstances where Outset (UK) Ltd provides legal advice and legal drafting as part of the Outset UK Ltd Services, those services are not delivered by or received from a business authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Outset (UK) Ltd and Outset Legal LLP utilise a supervisory and operating protocol across both entities, and apply terms and conditions of trading intended at all times to safeguard client interests and meet the outcomes based regulatory framework of the Solicitors Regulation Authority, including Chapter 12. As part of the operation of the protocol, it is always made clear to clients from which entity they are receiving advice. Further details are available for inspection on request by clients and prospective clients of either or both entities.

Other Information

Litigation and Alternative Methods of Funding

Advice and representation on litigation matters is provided through Outset Legal LLP.

Please note that alternative funding methods exist for many kinds of litigation, such as ‘No win – no fee’ or insurance. Whilst nearly all litigation we conduct is on behalf of businesses or employers, there are circumstances where another body might pay your legal costs. It is also possible that you may hold a legal expenses insurance policy that may cover or part of your legal costs.

We strongly advise that you carefully check for this. It is important. Not only might insurers contribute towards your legal costs, if you do have alternative methods of funding your case, it may affect the recovery of costs from your opponent. You should tell the lawyer supervising your matter if you think you may have such an alternative. If another body does pay your legal costs then, with your consent, we may have to tell that body about your dispute.

Financial Services Authority

Neither Outset (UK) Ltd nor Outset Legal LLP are authorised by the Financial Services Authority. However, Outset Legal LLP may provide certain limited investment advice services where these are closely linked to the legal work it is providing. This is because Outset Legal LLP is a member of the Law Society of England and Wales, which is a designated professional body for the purposes of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.

The Solicitors Regulations Authority is the independent regulatory arm of the Law Society. The Legal Ombudsman deals with complaints against lawyers. If you are unhappy with any investment advice you receive from Outset Legal LLP, you should raise your concerns with either of those bodies.

Equality and Diversity

Outset (UK) Ltd and Outset Legal LLP are committed to promoting equality and diversity in all of their dealings with clients, third parties and employees. An equality and diversity policy is available on request.
