Industrial relations

Collective bargaining covers nearly 30 percent of the UK work force. Taking the Public Sector alone, coverage is much higher. Whilst union membership is reducing, unions are entitled to apply to the Central Arbitration Committee in certain circumstances for binding bargaining rights. These rights have changed the landscape of Industrial Relations in the UK and call for a greater level of strategic understanding.

Ultimately, Industrial Relations are driven by the quality of
communication and organisationally it is essential to look at Industrial Relations not in isolation but in the context of:
  • core business
  • likely change
  • management and leadership structures
  • communications infrastructure and approach

This allows the organisation to plan and proactively manage Industrial Relations strategy.

Outset’s experience in industrial relations strategy is hard to rival, with vast experience of advising private and public sector household names. In addition to the wider communications and leadership agendas, experience includes collective bargaining, information and consultation, works councils, as well as threats of strikes, strikes and recognition applications to the Central Arbitration Committee.
