Employment Law

Darren joined Outset in 2012 and continues to demonstrate his considerable ability to cut quickly through difficult legal issues to find strategic solutions, frequently undertaking advocacy at Employment Tribunal hearings. Darren has been a key lawyer and relationship manager for a range of large employer clients including multi-national companies, local authorities, schools and academies, housing associations and third sector organisations.

Lorraine Williams

Employment Law

Lorraine has been with Outset since 2004. With a depth of employment law experience plus a commercial background, she is well placed to provide strong practical and commercial advice on all aspects of this area. Lorraine has frequently dealt with TUPE transfers and provision of employment law support in relation to business acquisitions and disposals. Lorraine works for a diverse range of clients with a particular emphasis on owner managed businesses.

Nicholas
Nicholas Moore

Employment Law

Nicholas starting his career in the City of London with Hill Dickinson before moving to Osborne Clarke as Senior Partner and Head of Employment, Pensions and Incentives.

Nicholas’ areas of expertise cover the whole range of employment law, recently recommended by the Legal 500 UK Guide to the legal profession as ‘Outstanding. Very sensible and precise’. His particular specialisation is in employee relations law and also business reorganisations and transfers of undertakings.  He has long experience in employment and employee relations issues as they affect employers in the merchant shipping industry and is a member of the Employment Committee of the Chamber of Shipping.

In 2001 he was appointed an Employment Judge.

Megan is an experienced and focused employment lawyer. Tactical insight and her excellent analytical skills enable Megan to work closely with clients to manage successfully the most complex areas of the employment relationship. Working with Outset since 2005, Megan advises on all areas of employment law from drafting contracts to Employment Tribunal claims. She regularly represents as an advocate at tribunal.

Chloe Pereira

Employment Law

Chloe joined us in 2016 and advises employers and in all areas of employment law, dealing with contentious and non-contentious matters, including employment tribunal claims, exit strategy, settlement agreements, team moves, post termination restrictions, discrimination issues, redundancy, reorganisation and TUPE. Having worked across many industries including media, banking and insurance, Chloe has a good level of experience of working with a variety of clients, through a range of employment and related commercial issues, including collective consultation, redundancy advice, day-to-day employment queries, and contract drafting.  Chloe is able to offer Outset clients support on immigration issues including sponsorships, right to work checks, and indefinite leave to remain advice.

Melissa Nelson

After 9 years at a leading law firm in the South East Melissa joined Outset’s Employment team in March 2017.  Melissa provides clear, practical and strategic advice to a diverse range of clients on all aspects of employment law including: business reorganisations and redundancy; disciplinary and grievance processes; employment contracts and policies; discrimination and equal opportunities; data protection and monitoring; Employment Tribunal claims; TUPE transfers; Maternity and paternity rights; Whistleblowing; Working time and holiday pay; Restrictive covenants and business protection; and Settlement agreements.

Amanda
Amanda Brown

Employment Law

Amanda qualified as a solicitor in 1999. After a year or so gaining broad experience of commercial litigation, Amanda has since specialised in employment law, acting for both private and public sector employers, including Higher Education Institutions. Before joining Nicholas Moore in 2010, Amanda was an Associate at national firm Mills & Reeve.

Amanda advises on the full range of employment issues. She has particular expertise in equality and diversity matters and litigation in both the Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal.  Her clients have said that they value her pro-active, practical approach and her ability to find solutions which go beyond the technical employment law issues, reflecting the commercial objectives at stake.

Gemma Wickham
Gemma Wickham

Employment Law

Gemma joined the Employment Team in 2017. She is an energetic, pragmatic and commercially minded lawyer with a broad range of experience in employment, regulation, commercial and public sector work covering both contentious and non-contentious issues. She advises on the full breadth of employment law matters including drafting contracts of employment and director’s service agreements, TUPE, discrimination and employment tribunal practice and procedure. Sectors have included health, education, charities and social enterprise and local government.

Jo Pengelley

Jo trained and qualified in a leading City firm, where she gained experience in Corporate, Tax and Employment law and acted for a range of large national and multi-national employer clients.  After a break to have children, Jo joined Nicholas Moore Specialist Employment Lawyers where she advised on the full range of employment issues.

Fiona joined Outset’s Human Resources team in 2010, bringing with her many years of senior HR experience. Her focus in Outset is on using her wide experience to support mid-size and smaller businesses in particular with setting and implementing their HR strategy. Fiona’s generalist background and recruitment experience make her ideally suited to the role.

Working as a HR Consultant, Michelle focuses on supporting mid-size and smaller businesses in all aspects of HR specifically strategy design and implementation. An extremely experienced HR professional, Michelle has a breadth of experience across a number of business sectors from Corporate to smaller sized businesses.  Areas of expertise include; business re-engineering, TUPE, complex employee relations issues and recruitment having worked in HR management roles for many years before joining Outset in September 2007.

Kevin Nolan

Human Resources

With Outset since 2006, Kevin provides an extensive range of generalist HR Management knowledge and experience from public and private sectors. His experience includes management of strategic workforce projects covering recruitment, transition and development. Kevin’s Outset role is multi-faceted – often project based – with particular emphasis on the use of technology in delivering people management solutions. In addition to consulting on Human Resources, Kevin provides expertise, support and guidance to clients on the cloud based HR Information System. Kevin is also a qualified mediator for workplace dispute resolution.

Emma joins Outset from a solid background as a recruitment specialist. An expert in permanent recruitment, Emma’s aptitude in finding solutions for her clients will add valuable skills to the HR team. Her skills include headhunting prospective employees via a variety of sources including through social media, maintaining strong client relationships and managing the entire recruitment process.

Recruitment

Leanne joined outset in September 2015. Following her Law and Criminology degree, she started her career with four years experience within the customer service and sales industry. She then moved into general recruitment but has build a notable specialism in recruiting for HR roles. She possesses strong relationship management skills and business awareness and utilises both traditional methods of recruitment and new technology and social media to provide a full end to end recruitment service.

Rebecca joined Outset as an Employment Advisor after relocating to Kent from Newcastle. She has eight years’ experience as an HR Advisor in a leading government agency, and has extensive knowledge of HR casework, conflict resolution, ACAS, Trade Unions, recruitment and training.

Rachel joined the Outset team in August 2014 after carrying out an HR Officer role in a leading care organisation. She has proven experience in implementing key company policies and procedures including disciplinary and grievance processes, redundancy consultations and absence management. She also has extensive experience in conducting disciplinary investigations.

David joined Outset’s HR team after working as an employment and HR consultant for the past 12 years. He has extensive experience in employee relations, HR policy and procedures, and dispute resolution. He also has a breadth of experience across most sectors and particular expertise within leisure industry.

Employment Advisory

Christine is a seasoned HR professional who joined Outset in 2016.  Her experience includes HR management in one of the UK’s largest food retailers and responsibility for delivering various college management training programmes. This combined experience provides her with excellent practical experience and academic knowledge from which to advise in all areas of HR management activities, including managing absence, discipline procedures and staff training.

Employment Advisory

Samantha joined Outset in 2017 and brings people skills, knowledge and expertise gained from roles primarily within the UK Parliament which included tasks and responsibilities in relation to Casework and Research.  Samantha is currently studying for the CIPD qualification as part of continued development so that she can provide Outset with additional HR operational expertise and knowledge in the Employment Advisory Service.  Samantha is currently responsible for providing coordination and support across a wide range of the HR activities carried out by Outset, and in particular to the Employment Advisory Service.

Chloe joined Outset in January 2017 and brings a wealth of people skills and knowledge gained from previous roles and functions within the customer service and sales sectors.  Chloe provides Outset with operational knowledge and understanding around relationship management skills of which she has a particular focus.  Chloe is actively involved in the recruitment process with a particular focus on the sourcing and identifying of high calibre and unique candidates to build on the Outset talent pool to the benefit of clients which utilise the service. Chloe continues to develop her knowledge and expertise in HR and is currently studying a CIPD qualification in Human Resource Practice.

Sean Gorman

Sean joined Outset in November 2016. Sean was previously a Partner with a leading Kent firm. Immediately prior to joining Outset, Sean was a director of national construction company, with responsibility for commercial and legal matters. He has been recognised by Chambers and Partners, the independent guide to law firms as a leading individual, with clients commenting he “has a good understanding of the commercial realities”. Sean advises clients on business acquisitions and disposals, equity and debt investments and has experience of a range of commercial matters.

After six years with a leading law firm in the South East, Nick joined Outset’s growing team to advise on a broad range of corporate and commercial work. An experienced company commercial lawyer, Nick was shortlisted in West Kent for “Junior Lawyer of the Year” in both 2012 and 2013. Experience includes private company share and business acquisitions and disposals, joint ventures, partnership and LLP matters, bank lending and commercial contracts.

Property

Highly experienced across the public and private sectors, advising on all legal aspects of property development, property management and infrastructure, Amber joined Outset in 2012. She advises on commercial property acquisitions and disposals, dealing with freehold and leasehold properties, advising on title, drafting and negotiating new leases and lease assignments as well as reporting to clients and lenders.

Stuart joined Outset’s growing M & A Team in March 2013 advising on commercial property transactions, both freehold and leasehold. Stuart also handles the sale and purchase of dental businesses. He has wide experience as a lawyer having acted across the spectrum of commercial clients, private individuals and lenders, including contentious landlord and tenant issues.

Jamie
Jamie Tavares

Corporate and Commercial

Jamie has broad corporate and commercial law experience.  She trained at a central London law firm following her early career as a paralegal.

Jamie has experience of working with a range of clients with various business needs, from start-up companies to AIM listed companies preparing for floatation; acting for companies, brokers and nominated advisers. She has experience of executing corporate transactions involving debt and equity finance, portfolio disposals (including international), corporate restructuring, management buy-ins, sale and acquisition of private companies and general commercial advice.

Jamie enjoys travelling and experiencing time abroad as a local. Netball is a big part of Jamie’s life and she plays in the Essex Met League.

Usman Miah

Corporate and Commercial

Usman graduated with a law degree from the University of Kent and joined Outset in 2016. During his studies, Usman spent time with a city based Insurance Underwriter where he gained practical experience working with clients. Outside the office, Usman is a keen sportsman with a particular interest in cricket and football. Usman joins our Corporate and Commercial Law team with a particular interest in property law.

Rachel joined us in 2016, following completion of her Law and Criminology degree at the University of Kent.  Rachel has a keen interest in corporate law, and during her studies she gained practical legal experience with regional law firms and chambers. In Rachel spare time she is accomplished, medal winning fencer.

Previously an associate with a leading City law firm, Beth joined Outset in February 2017. She has advised on private and public company acquisitions (including private equity and cross-border transactions), joint ventures, equity capital markets transactions, corporate restructurings and general commercial matters.

Managing Director

As the Managing Director, Steve is responsible for the day-to-day management of UKHSE Limited. His past experience provides a broad expanse of knowledge to call upon when assisting clients with their Health and Safety systems. He is involved in the delivery of solutions to meet clients’ needs, whether this is in ‘policy development’; CDM Co-coordinator services or the delivery of a ‘tailor-made’ training course.

Sian is an experienced Health and Safety Professional with a proven track record of success in the public and private market sectors. Previously Sian worked in the care sector having hands on and management experience, progressing to a lecturer in a further education college. Sian is able to train on specialised subjects including Communication Skills for those with non-verbal needs; Adult Protection Conflict Management for people who work with the public and dealing with challenging behaviours.

Paul joined the team in April 2012 to assist with the delivery of food safety training and also to provide assistance with the delivery of our contract to conduct work experience risk assessments.
He has extensive experience of the hospitality and catering industry and is actively involved in the design and delivery of CIEH Food Safety training courses.

Graham Windram

Consultant / Trainer

Graham joined us in June 2015. Over the last 11 years he has worked for a premier national newspaper group, rising through the ranks to become the Head of department for Health, Safety, Occupational Health, Wellbeing and Environment. He has a track record that has in the past delivered 18001 and reduced sickness absence from 5 days to 3 days per person per annum.

Don Paige

Consultant

In 2012 Don took the decision to train as an asbestos Surveyor where he worked on projects relating to everything from housing stock to large military establishments, industrial sites and commercial premises.  Since then, having realised that he wished to pursue a career in Health and Safety he joined UKHSE in April 2016 gaining his FPA fire risk assessment qualification and also the CITB SMSTS Site Manager’s qualification, and is commencing his NEBOSH General Certificate in September 2016, so that he joins the multi-disciplinary team at UKHSE. Don also spent 10 years with the RNLI as a volunteer crewman and after 5 years became a helmsman.

Chris joined the team in March 2006. He has served in the Royal Navy Submarine Service for more than 20 years and has travelled the world extensively. The last 10 years working in Australia, Canada and the USA in both a teaching and advisory role. As a result of his most recent role within the Royal Navy in a ‘teaching’ capacity he has the proven ability to meet the needs of a wide range of audiences making him an ideal trainer.

Lee Yardley

Consultant

Lee joined us in December 2016. Over the last 30 years he has worked with in various sectors of industries and services. These include Engineering, Ambulance Service, Police and Overseas Aviation Security where he trained in Health and Safety and was the Safety advisor with G4s at Baghdad International Airport. He has also served as a backup medic in Kabul Afghanistan, with Global Strategies on a similar Aviation project. With extensive experience gathered whilst working within several industries Lee is ideally placed to provide advice and training to our many and varied clients.

Nicola joined Outset’s Health and Safety business, UKHSE, in September 2015, bringing with her many years administrative experience across a wide variety of sectors including Media, Telecoms, Property and Education. Nicola supports our large team of Health and Safety Consultants and Trainers in their day to day duties and provides friendly and helpful support to our customers as needed.

Liz joined Outset in the early part of 2013 as Financial Controller, bringing with her many years of accountancy experience gained across a broad business spectrum, including professional services. Her sound expertise and practice as an accountant and auditor, along with her appreciation of process design and management enable Liz to deliver in terms of both group financial and regulatory management.

Alan Aldridge

Group Managing Director

Alan has extensive management experience in a broad range of sectors including financial, commercial, renewable energy and health care. He joined Outset in May 2015 and is responsible for driving growth in the company.
Alan has run three businesses and worked as a management consultant at a major international firm for ten years. He brings key skills to Outset, including commercial knowledge, managing business performance and sales management.
