Carla Loveday

Carla is a Senior Paralegal within our Corporate & Commercial Team and is a Fellow to the Institute of Paralegals. She has extensive company secretarial and paralegal experience, working for SME's, FTSE 100's, local authorities, non-profit organisations and in private practice.

Her broad experience has been derived from assisting and leading on a variety of matters throughout the life of a company - incorporations and dissolutions, branch registrations, administration of companies domiciled outside of the UK, change of company name or change of status (private to public/public to private), review and revision of articles of association, investment deals, mergers, acquisitions and disposals.

Governance is an area of ongoing interest to Carla and one that continues to evolve; with broad experience in this area, from AGM planning, advising on the Nolan Principles, simplifying committee structures using the Carver model, director's duties, CQC regulation, board/committee reporting, to acting as general point of guidance for directors, fellow governors, district councillors or trustees.

Carla has also acted as lead on the ISO 9001 quality standard, focusing on how an organisation can ensure robust and resilient standards of quality control and quality assurance throughout its business management system.

Other specialisms are legal research, corporate due diligence reviews, company compliance reporting and reconstitution of statutory registers. However, Carla believes that the experience of running her own business is where she now adds most value; to approach company matters with a great deal more pragmatism and commercial value.

  • Certificate in Law & Society from the University of Kent

  • ICSA Certificate in Company Secretarial Practice & Share Registration (foundation stage of ICSA Chartered Secretary Qualifying Scheme)

When away from work, what do you enjoy doing?

As a mum of two children, I am a professional juggler of all things parenting, career and personal.

Walking is my space to download and think things through but, (when I finally make time to get back into it), Pilates is how I best unwind and rebalance.  I enjoy seeing my children grow in their rugby, cricket, tennis and dance skills, but a personal favourite is basketball.  Seeing Carmelo Anthony play his first game for the New York Nicks in Madison Square Gardens was very special!

You will always find me with my head in a book or digging into something new to learn, but some of my most rewarding experiences have come from teaching and mentoring others.

Whether volunteering at a church community lunch, serving as a school governor or completing challenge events to raise funds for charitable causes; I look for ways to pay it forward and be involved with my community. I am particularly passionate about the work of The Kenward Trust.

I couldn’t be without music in my life. A house filled will music, a smell of cooking, the sound of laughter and friends and family around a board game - a perfect night in.

What is your favourite book or movie

The Pursuit of Happyness

“Find something that you love. Something that gets you so excited you can’t wait to get out of bed in the morning. Forget about money. Be happy.” – Chris Gardner

Describe an interesting fact about yourself?

A bit dull of their own, so here’s a variety:

  • My maiden name is on the Bayeux Tapestry
  • When working in retail, I once served Victoria Beckham
  • I am named after Carla Lane (my Dad liked the Liver Birds)
  • My dream trip is to go and see the Northern Lights
  • I’ve secretly always wanted to learn how to play drums

When you were a child what did you want to be when you grew up?

Very influenced by the TV at that age and so it was moveable between a police officer (Dempsey & Makepeace) and lawyer (LA Law)!
