Jess joined Outset Group’s safety business UKHSE as a Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) in 2021.
Her role is to help ensure that employers using ionising radiation in the workplace are compliant with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17). Jess also advises on best working practices in order to restrict people’s exposure to ionising radiations and keep doses As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP).
Jess’ passion for radiation protection was ignited at university, where she achieved a first class degree in nuclear physics in addition to working part-time in the nuclear industry. Upon graduating, Jess joined Rolls-Royce Submarines as a Health Physicist, where she remained for six years prior to joining UKHSE. During her time with Rolls-Royce she completed two distance learning courses in radiation protection, successfully obtained RPA accreditation and was promoted to Senior Health Physicist. Her most notable work includes advising on the design of a brand-new manufacturing facility.
Jess has been an active member of and advocate for the Society for Radiological Protection (SRP) since her student days. In 2020 she was awarded the SRP Founders’ Medal for contributions of distinction to radiation protection.
