When away from work, what do you enjoy doing?

I have a young grandson (Billy Boy!) providing me with great fun and entertainment, especially when we explore! Most of the time I am heavily involved (voluntarily!) in expeditions for the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) scheme. This involves me training adults and youngsters in expedition skills such as camp craft, equipment, and navigation and assessing expeditions on behalf of Kent County Council for the award (Bronze, Silver and Gold). This puts me under canvas in a field on most weekends - and gives the long suffering family some peace and quiet.

I hill walk or bike with my daughter when possible, and at least once a year we both head to the hills with DofE colleagues. I enjoy reading thrillers and suspense and will often carry my kindle in a days ack when I am waiting for youngsters to turn up at checkpoints - so I can relax and read in peace and quiet with amazing views.

I also fill my limited spare time as a governor for a local school as part of the strategy and personnel committee.

We are a fairly close family so we often go to cinema, out for meals, shopping together, or just spend time together chilling out.

What is your favourite book or movie?

Difficult - I like thrillers and action movies but I am reading 'Power of the Introvert' as most recognition goes to loudest/brashest – not the quiet strivers!

Describe an interesting fact about yourself?

I have many interesting facts. However the main one people find interesting is I was a Jungle Warfare Instructor in the forces and spent many weeks living in jungles, teaching others how to survive and fight in such hostile terrain.

When you were a child what did you want to be when you grew up?

I aspired to being a leader in the army – this came from my babysitter giving me toy soldiers when I was a very young child!
